The 4th Coziest Mini Golf Open started off with a record turnout with 44 competitors (19 pro and 25 amateurs) including 8 women and 10 junior competitors and ended with a bang with Josh Benesh winning on the final shot in the pro division.
Matt Roalstad easily qualified for the 6-person 3rd round final with a record 2-round score of 55 (including 13 holes-in-one) and tying Kameron Haselius’s single-round course record of 27. Derek Hartmann and Josh Benesh matched each other round each shooting a 61 to make the final group. Putters League’s founder & 2024 AMA #1 finisher Bryan Akers (65) and locals Mark Giannini (66) and Mike Pendleton (67) all finished in the top 6.
In the final round, the holes where you can score a 0 (5,14,17,18) came into play. After Josh made the zero on 5 & 14, he took the lead from Matt. Matt took the lead back after making the shot on #17 but dramatically, Josh Benesh won his first AMA and event hosted by A Couple of Putts by acing the challenging 18th hole. Watch the video below to watch the incredible battle between Matt & Josh along with the rest of the top 6 players to make the finals with Tom Loftus doing commentary.
Robin Schwartzman shot a two-round 65 in the amateur division to easily take 1st place. Her score would have qualified her for the pro final. Rick Leistico returned to the Coziest after a hiatus with a strong 2-round 69 and Jason Peterson shot a 71 for the bronze and his best finish in the history of the Coziest Open.
Owen Pendleton won the junior division with a 72 and was 4th in the amateur division. Connor Leistico & Max Cullen finished 2nd and 3rd in the junior division.
Robin Schwartzman also took home first place in the women’s division, with Kaitlynn Kraus and Andrea Pendleton coming in 2nd and 3rd.
This will be the last year of the Coziest Open with golf ball only. In 2026, the tournament will allow players to utilize minigolf balls.
