Hole by hole stats and results
Fourteen players came out for the first annual Rosebud Open at America’s Action Territory in Kenosha, WI. The red AMA tournament consisted of three rounds on the family fun center’s Wisconsin Adventure course.
Tom Schweiss, winner of 8 M.C. Mini Masters tournaments, got out to the early lead with a first-round 37, highlighted by three aces in a five-hole span on the back 9. Other sub-40 rounds to start the tourney included a pair of 38s (Mick Cullen, Ben Briselden) and 39s (Kevin Anderson, Nate Blazier).
Round 2 featured a pair of 36s, the low rounds of the day, by Briselden and Greg Powroznik. Briselden’s three aces in round 2 brought his total to a field-leading 6 through 2 rounds, and he vaulted into the lead with a total score of 74. Mick Cullen was right on his heels with a 75, and Powroznik stood in 3rd place at 77. Tied for 4th at 79 were 2005 M.C. Mini Masters champion R.J. Dusak and Schweiss.
Starting the final round on the 13th hole, Briselden started with an OB shot on the 13th hole that led to his only 5 of the day, dropping him a stroke back of Cullen. However, he pulled even with an ace two holes later. With a dozen holes to go, Cullen pulled back into first as Briselden dropped strokes on two straight holes. The lead had stretched to 3 with 7 holes to go when Cullen effectively put it away with the only ace of the day on the course’s 7th hole, the toughest hole on the course, which played to an average of 3.1 on the day. That hole may have been the difference maker for the day, as Cullen took a total of 5 shots there in 3 rounds. While Justin Gutche achieved the low total of round 3 with a 37, Cullen cruised to a 5-shot victory and a 54-hole total of 113, with Dusak and Briselden tied for 2nd at 118.
While Cullen took the first prize of $100, Dusak and Briselden went into a three-hole aggregate playoff for the 2nd-place award of $75, putting on the tough 7th-8th-9th hole sequence. Dusak’s 3 on the 7th edged out Briselden’s 4, and they each took a 3 on the 8th and a 2 on the 9th, as Briselden’s tee shot on #9 slid just over the left edge of the cup, giving Dusak the 2nd-place prize. Briselden did take $20 for the highest total of aces (8).
