Recap
Utilizing the well-organized league and tournament system embedded within Walkabout Mini Golf VRs Discord Channel, we were able to give an opportunity for people from around the world to compete in VR in a 24-hour period between January 21st & 22nd (or just the 22nd if you live in the UK or further east). The first week of the league put all 15 easy and hard courses in play for the two-round set. Out of the nearly 100 competitors to play in the weekly league, 16 AMA members from around the world opted in to use their results to gain points in the 2023 AMA season.
League regular from Mexico, Jorge Rimblas came out ahead in first place with help from an impressive -21 on the Quixote Valley Hard course. League regular and new AMA member, Jimmy Wilson, combined two strong rounds for a 2nd place finish. While Tom wasn’t thrilled about his results on a couple of holes on the Arizona Modern Easy course, he was able to share the round with Darren Hickman who had the best round of the AMA members on that desert-themed course with a -27. This score is only 5 off the world record and secured Darren a tie for 3rd in the event with Matt Roalstad who has turned in numerous wins across competitive IRL mini golf events in Minnesota as well as a 4th place finish in last year’s Miniest Mini Golf Open.
Maybe the most notable result is this shot (see video below) from 8-year-old Max Cullen. It was equally hilarious and impressive. Max’s energy for the game of mini golf is a joy for us to witness.
